Head of Faith taxes
Main Post:
New to this game 3rd game first 2 literally deleted them caused it was a cluster F***.
Created a new faith and made my self as the head of faith.
I thought I would have what the pope have and get taxes (monthly gold) from temples and I hold Rome am I missing something?

You need to have communion as one of your faith's 3 pillars
Tip : Dont bother creating a spiritual head of faith when reforming a faith
Main Post:
A spiritual of faith lets you do 3 things :
- Buy claims with piety, but this only works on rulers of your faith
Since there is no peaceful way to spread a faith, and no way to force convert a nation to your faith via war, this is pointless since all rulers of your faith will be in your realm anyway. Unless you really want to jump through hoops to do mass abduct + forced convert of heirs to try and convert other realms to your faith but this takes forever and is a waste of time since its much faster to use holy wars instead.
- Trade piety for gold, but this only works if your head of faith is rich
When you feudalize, you dont get free cities/temples so your head of faith will be broke for a LONG time.
- Declare undirected holy wars
Since everyone of your faith is going to be in your realm anyway, this is pointless.
The downside of having a spiritual head of faith is that you have -no- control over their appointment and if any head of faith has a sin, bad events will trigger causing massive fervor loss which means more heresies.

Head of Faith
Main Post:
For those who have reformed, what are your thoughts of the different ideas for the head of faith?
I think Temporal could be solid, but Spiritual can still grant claims and gold which while possible to be used against the player could also allow the player to get free, easy gold. Or does Temporal mean I still get temple taxes beyond what I would as a spiritual (thus the reason so expensive to do)

I have the same question! I can't find the answer anywhere but my new faith is calling, so I'll just have to pick one and see how it plays out...
tolerance of the true faith
Main Post:
Does tolerance of the true faith just effect unrest or has meiou and taxes improved it?

Unrest reduction is nothing to sneeze at. It's so powerful that the Byzantines got a nerf to their TTF bonus, because unrest is what tears countries apart. When you play wide, especially as you get to different culture groups and religious groups, it becomes close to impossible to get any use out of land where both are a problem. Either you accept the culture, the religion, or somehow both.
It's the great strength of tolerance, since religious conversion is so difficult. If you are religiously intolerant, you have to do everything in your power to convert the religion, because the TTF bonus means that after you convert a province with lower CE, you might not even have to accept the culture to get good manpower and money from it, and that's a huge deal.
Never sleep on unrest reduction.
